Gallimaufry of June enhancements

We've been hard at work since our last post, running through a lot of small enhancements. We haven't added any major features, but all the little things add up.

"Gallimaufry" is one of my fun favorite words. It means a collection or hodgepodge of things with no apparent unifying theme. Comes from the name of a 16th century Middle-French meat stew where they just threw in everything :-)

Anyway, here's what's new across the board...

New regional listing sites

New CanadaStays full channel sync with push updates for listing data and rates and online quote/booking. Contact us to be added to the beta.

New Converge/Elavon gateway

New widget options

  • Optional simple charges on booking widget quote instead of full description. Many requests for this one.
  • Optional "From" wording on booking widget quote
  • Option on booking widget to refer to "guests" vs. adults. HT. Daniel M.
  • Translated booking widget to Spanish. If you would like another language, contact us and we can work with you on translation. HT Craig H.
  • New availability/property search widget. If you've got a lot of properties, plop this on your site and guests can winnow down to the ones available for their dates

New hosted website options

  • Option to approximate map location with a area circle instead of points and addresses
  • Customizable footer template

New functions

  • Bulk Block-off. Got a event like a wedding where you've sold on one booking but need to block off a bunch of other properties? Or doing maintenance on a bunch of properties at the same time? Go to Tools -> Bulk Block-Off and block them off all at once. HT Chantel C.
  • Email list report to dump all inquiries and bookings to a spreadsheet with info about what properties and dates they stayed for import into MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc. HT Victoria H.
  • Copy booking button to create new booking or quote -- makes it easier to add repeat guests. HT Melissa P.
  • Values view for custom field definitions section in Settings. Given one field definition, you can see the values set for all properties at once. HT Maria S.
  • Booking listing site fee tracking. We're working on reports for this, but you can start tracking now in the Charges tab of each booking.

Smaller things added everywhere

  • Grace period option to lock code generation times to give guests a configurable number of hours on each side of their check-in/check-out times. HT Debby R.
  • Rate adjustment option on channel syncs to allow increasing/decreasing rates on for each channel
  • Discount column on booking import
  • Booking ribbon background option to apply property color to heading. HT Uwe K.
  • Season and rate columns to rate tester for easier diagnosis of how rates are generated
  • Sort overlapping seasons by shortest first when choosing a season for a booking to make rate engine defaults work more intuitively
  • Enhance Airbnb calendar import filtering so pending bookings, holidays, and days in advance rules are no longer imported
  • Show net breakdown on tax and PM commission reports, show as rent surcharges with rent on line item summary report. HT Chris P.

Any questions on these, ask away!

found it, LOVE the availability search.
A suggestions: widget displaying popular amenities in a form of icons with descriptions possibly that can be embedded in the website. Such as Firepit (icon for fire), grill (icon for grill), Hot Tub (icon for hot tub), pool table (icon for pool table), arcade (icon for arcade) etc. You already have it almost there on "availability search" but I 'd like to have it on property website so it is more 'visual" - inquirers can see icons/brief descriptions in a form of table or bullet list ion the website. See example on my www.smoky-mountains-cabin.com/Appalachianescape "amenities" bullet list .

Grace period is over in the door lock section in settings, but it sounds like you already found that!

Availability search has been requested for so long! I'm glad we got this in, and we'll continue to enhance it over time by adding more filters you can turn on -- guest count, etc.

The channel rate adjustment is only for TripAdvisor and CanadaStays right now. If you hook up the channels, we can update listing data, rates etc, and import bookings -- and we added the option to increase or decrease rates when you update those channels so you can up the rates to balance out booking fees etc. Right now, I think TA is still only allowing 5+ properties to use that, though :-/ We're working on opening up more channels.

An amenities list widget is a great idea. We've already got that display in our hosted websites, for example: http://www.shenrent.com/autumn-ridge#amenities -- so we could make something like that available as a widget.

Yes like that but I envisioned something with those little mini icons you have used instead of bullets to make it more visual maybe? Like a little hot tub icon you have next to the words "hot tub" etc

Are the hyperlinks supposed to work in the availability search? When I click on the property name nothing comes up but when I click on the details it brings me to the website.

Also, is it possible to have a "book now" or "inquire now" button as part of the multi-property availability search?

Yep, clicks on the property name, photo, or details button are all supposed to link in. That uses the Property URL you've set on the property. Fixed one link that was only showing at a certain size, going to blocked by popup blockers, so it should work now.

It'll also pick up the property Short Description, beds/baths you set in the amenities section, and a few highlight amenities like pets, internet, firewood, mountain, forest, waterview, waterfront. I need to write an article about how all that works for this one -- the other widgets are pretty self explanatory but the search picks up stuff from many different areas.

Adding more buttons is something we will be doing for sure, but as you know we like to start small, see what the different use cases are, and then iterate from there. At a minimum, we need some hard coded buttons for Inquiry or Book, with the availability to specify or template urls or hash links.

Eventually the buttons will end up looking something like the list in our hosted websites design. The list itself is very similar to what we did there. For example: http://www.shenrent.com/

Following up on this. I really like the layout on the site http://www.shenrent.com/. For the availability selector it would be nice if the total price with a book now button came up after each property. Otherwise, I'm forcing people to put dates in again when they go to the individual landing page.

Yep, shenrent.com is one of our hosted websites using the turnkey template -- that came out earlier this year and we've been improving it since.

Quoting price on the availability search is a great idea! I'll note that down on our todo list. It'd require adding full occupancy fields in the search so guest and pet fees would be properly calculated. Adding a option for a book now button is another good idea. The way I see that working, it would still send the guests to your individual property landing page, but with the dates from the search already filled in to the book now widget.

Seems like in availability search it shows strange "sleeps" numbers. like my 3 bd property that sleeps 10 shows "sleeps 6-10"; and my 4 bd that sleeps 12 also shows "sleeps 6-10" . I have no idea where it got the lower limit if it is in beds, then 3 bd sleeps 10 in beds ( 2 kings, 2 queens, 2 single daybeds) and 4 bd sleeps 10 min in beds (2 kings, 2 queens, 2 single daybeds). But what happened with 4bd upper limit (12?) is there anything I need to adjust to make it show correctly? it seems correct in "rules". Thanks

The availability search uses sleeps numbers calculated off of the Amenities tab for each property. The rules on the property are separate and are for limiting bookings, while the Amenities ones are for display. Clear as mud? :-)

You can see the calculated numbers on the General Info tab of the property (see screenshot below). Sleeps min is calc'd from the number of beds in Amenities, while Sleeps max is calc'd from number of beds with 2 people if they can (king, queen, double). That's why the 4br is still getting 10 -- 2 kings = 4, 2 queens = 4, 2 single's = 2 = 10 total.

That's how the numbers are auto calculated, but if you hit the Edit button on General Info you can put in overrides for sleeps and rates for just this eventuality where the auto calc's don't give you what you want.

Also note that on the availability search widget settings you can hide the rate and hide the min sleeps if you want.

Thanks, or make it even easier that the book now button just acts like the current booking/inquiry widget and begins processing the information immediately!
