Unfortunately, as you correctly pointed out, this would be absolutely dependent on the Vrbo API to support - and they've told us they don't have any plans to add it. :-(

VRBO now supports assigning photos to rooms but even though I have configured in OR it's not translating to VRBO. What can we do to get that working versus manually doing in the VRBO admin tool?
As mentioned above, unfortunately Vrbo does not support this feature via their API that we use to connect with them, so this is not possible.
I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with Vrbo support and they insisted the room assignment photo mapping is coming from OwnerRez and that I would have to change my photo room setting on the Property Management tool. It's a new feature, has something changed since April in the API?
I received this reply from OwnerRez support and it makes sense:
You are correct that assigning photos to rooms is better supported by Airbnb than Vrbo. We send Vrbo the photos along with the Room details. We have no other input on how they 'map' those photos to their categories. For example, they combine all bedroom photos into one category and bathroom photos into another. They have recently started to use AI to organize photos, so you may see your photos in a completely different order than they appear in OwnerRez.
I apologize if the following is a little too 'techy' but I'm including it in case you speak with Vrbo again. This shows the API feed for a specific Room. There is no line to include photos in the definition of a Room.

I called Vrbo back today after re-examining my Owner Dashboard. On the Dashboard it correctly shows the photos by room for the bedrooms and bathrooms as I set them up in OwnerRez; they do not however have any other rooms (living room, dining, etc.) and from what I can see there is no way to add any room but one in which there is a bed.
When I go to my live listing, the rooms on the Owner Dashboard do not appear. There are a bunch of random rooms and these rooms do not correlate to my photos and are randomly divided. I asked if it was due to AI and the rep didn’t know what I was talking about.
They are escalating my case, so hopefully I will get to at least Level 2 Support. Vrbo's photo mixing is causing confusions with some recent guests asking how the rooms are divided.
