Any movement on having Schlage directly integrate with OR?

Beside the additional cost, some of the downsides would be having another account to manage.  Another logion/password, another site where hackers can get in and capture email addresses\password\potentially lock codes.

Hello we would greatly appreciate direct integration with the Encode locks.  They are one of the more popular locks and work really well.  I second what many have said about not wanting to manage a second account/integration when 99% of the functionality is there inside of OwnerRez except for the API connection to the lock.

This would be our teams most requested feature looking forward to 2023.

Agree. The Yonomi API I've shared https://www.yonomi.com/integrations is a solution to integrate to many devices, both locks and other smart home appliances. They are owned by the same company as Schlage, but work with other market products. I don't believe there's a fee either passed along.  

Seems to me your customers have spoken.

You have announced a large OR price increase. How about direct integration so that we can save some money.

No one is interested in having one more hand in our pockets.

Anytime someone wants to "Schedule a Call" rather than disclose pricing a little red flag runs up the flagpole.

This is how Hospitable PMS integrated with Schlage Encodes and includes it in their PMS pricing. Can't be that bad for that start-up and their users love it. 

We agree with what has been said, PLEASE INTEGRATE WITH SCHLAGE ENCODE!!  I thought you guys did before I signed up for your company....I may have not had I known. 

Hey Jami, thanks for checking in on it. We have considered direct integration with lock brands, but traditionally we've integrated with third parties that do many locks at once to give customers more choice and flexibility.  This past summer, we announced a new partnership with Jervis that handles Schlage locks along with Yale, August, and other major brands.  Have you looked at Jervis and their cost structure?  Curious what the downsides are there.  We may end up doing direct Schlage at some point because of the overwhelming outcry for it - believe me, the response is noted!  Thanks for your votes and feedback.

Jervis does look interesting because I would also like to automate other things like turn on the heat a couple of hours before check-in time.  (And turn it off after checkout.)  I normally manually do this with my nest app (unless I forget) and it looks like this Jervis also integrates with Nest.   Is this level of integration possible?  Would I be able to do this on their PMS pricing plan?

Hi Alan, you can setup Nest to auto go to eco mode in away setting.  We use it at our properties and the temp automatically reverts when the house does not detect motion for a period of time.

This is actively being looked into along with Yonomi.

Just trying to understand: how is Jervis more than RemoteLock? as far as I can tell, for 1 device, Jervis is $50 while RemoteLok is $60. And, you get to add your Nest thermostat in Jervis (included in the $50 plan),  adding more value.

full disclosure: I'm not using either of them (Jervis or RemoteLock), just looking at my options, and so far, Jervis, for me, seems to solve my problems at a reasonable price

If you're talking about the Jervis integration, that integration has been out for a while, and we didn't build that in-house actually.  That integration was built by Jervis and is managed/supported directly by them.  You would need to consult with Jervis on pricing.  Great company there, and they have some cool features!

The Yonomi and other things I alluded to recently are integrations directly with lock brands. They do not involve third-party partners and would be direct to the lock maker like Schlage, igloo, Yale, etc.  There would still be a monthly price for these direct-to-brand integrations however because each of these brands charge a certain amount for API/SDK access to their lock platform. But it would be very small compared to some of the third-party platforms.  The third-party platforms offer a lot of other devices and have value-adds (ie. extra features) that OwnerRez would probably not develop, so you may still want to use a third-party platform.  We are just exploring options for how to give direct lower-cost options to some of our customers that are trying to trim the fat and look for simple alternatives.  Lots of balls in the air right now...  🤹

I have a few questions about WiFi locks like the Encode... we are currently running about 50 locks on z-wave and have relatively few if any problems with them.  Yes there is a zwave controller that needs to be placed on the property and accessed in some way but functionally they are doing basically the same thing... getting a guest code into a door at a specific time and removing it at another time.   So for those that have wifi locks here are my questions...

1.  I have heard that wifi locks consume a lot of battery unless you change them so they "heartbeat"  and only come online every once in awhile to check for things.  What has been your experience with batteries?

2.  If you use the heartbeat how do you handle things like last minute guests, early checkins or late check outs where you need to adjust the booking and subsequently any restrictions you have placed on the code but you may not have a heartbeat connection to the lock for an hour or two?   Does their UI tell you when the next heartbeat will be?

3.  The "wrappers" or User Interfaces generally provided by lock manufacturers seem to be straight forward...and relatively simple.   The 3rd party tools seem to be more purpose built to handle rental type situations... for example:   How do you manage things like multiple locks that get a guest code (front door, back door, garage door)  in a property and others that might be on a closet that is strictly for the owners or housekeepers?  Are you manually adding the same code and restrictions to 2 or 3 or more locks each time there is a booking?  Do you manually at the door lock add in codes for owners and housekeeper and not use a UI?   Are you able to restrict the locks so that housekeepers only have access between 9am and 4pm daily and maybe not at all if there is an active guest code?

4.  Are you doing other smart home type things when guests access the property?  Set thermostats, turn on lights, monitor noise, etc..?

5.  I don't have Schlage locks but can you tell me if they have the ability to let me know the first time that a door lock code is used?   IE the guest has checked in?   Many of the 3rd parties use this to send a welcome message to the guest... reminding them to report anything that is amiss, giving them contact information, etc...

 

I think I have used many of the 3rd party apps... Vera, Smartthings (not integrated), Lynx, RemoteLock, Brivo (integrated) and they all do the basics of getting door codes into locks and of course all of the locks can stand alone with manual intervention... it is the integration that is the hard part.  In my estimation the 3rd parties have a lot of extra features built into them that drive up the costs.   Features that I just wont use because I do it in OR already... (texting, emailing) or don't really think there is a need (webapps to unlock doors).  I saw one the other day you could use text messaging to unlock your door.

I just want an integration that can take a door lock code generated by OR for a booking and put it on all of the guest locks for that property and a simple UI that can show me the codes that are on the lock and whether they are verified to be synch'd.  IE has the lock confirmed that the code was accepted.    If I need to make a change I make it in OR and if it impacts the lock restrictions they are integrated down to the lock.  I'd like to say in realtime but I don't think that is the case with wifi locks.

I have read through the topic and I think an integration is a good idea but I don't think Yunumi (sp) is the solution. I recommend that OR check out jetsam.com

See the thread below where the CEO is termporarily providing free service to Smarththings users that have been left in the cold by their lock management software provider -- there are a couple of OR users on the thread. they are very much focused on providing integration with both z-wave and wifi locks so members can mix and match and update as needed

Schlage Encode is the #1 recommended smart lock for vacation rentals...they are everywhere.

If I had a direct integration, that would make it so much easier for me. I'm currently forced to use a 3rd party (Jervis) when I'd rather just integrate directly.

100% Agree this would be an awesome feature. We have a dozen properties with this lock. Having the ability to have it integrated in OR would be a significant feature/function  value add!

We also use Schlage Encode at our properties and would love to see this feature added,.
